Governor Dave Heineman is seeking candidates to fill an open slot on the Nebraska State Board of Education.
The opening follows the resignation Monday of Mark Quandahl, who represented District 2, which covers portions of Douglas and Sarpy counties.
Quandahl was appointed by Heineman in 2009 and won election in November 2012. Heineman will appoint a new board member to complete the term, which runs through 2016.
Applicants for the position must not be actively involved in the teaching profession and must not hold current state office or other government board or commission positions, unless the role of the board is limited to an advisory capacity.
Applicants also must have lived within District 2 boundaries for at least six months. The deadline for applications in Feb. 26.
